BAG Art Camp 2018

(w)ORD workshop – Scotland

(w)ORD is a multi stage, cultural and creative collaboration between Scottish and Norwegian Artists looking at common historical, cultural and geographical connections with emphasis on language in art.

The first stage of this collaboration was a 10 day residency at the Isle of Mull, Scotland in June 2018. Five Norwegian artists and five Scottish artists lived and worked together at Tormore Quarry Cottages, gaining knowledge from field trips with local experts including, Gaelic Advisor Jane Brunton, Geologist John Faithfull, Biologists and Entomologists from Mull and Iona Ranger Service and Seafarer Mark Jardine. The itinerary included trips to nearby abandoned settlements and expeditions to Knockvologan, Lunga, Staffa and Iona.

Selected Norwegian Artists: Marit Tunestveit Dyre, Sarah Jost, David A Rios and Randi Annie Strand.

Selected Scottish Artists: Katharine Aarrestad, Rhona Fleming, Jon Mcleod and Calum Wallis.

The four Scottish artists were selected from OPEN – SSA+VAS Together 2018 exhibition in Edinburgh. The four Norwegian artists were selected during David Faithfull’s BAG ArtCamp residency in Bergen in 2017.

BAG ArtCamp 2018 was organised in association with the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) and co-curated by Imi Maufe (BAG) and David Faithfull (SSA), who were also participating artists.
