(w)ORD : EBBE+FLOW TOURING EXHIBITION
(w)ORD: EBBE+FLOW is a touring exhibition, stemming from (w)ORD, a collaborative communication and artistic research project between nine artists based in Norway and Scotland: Sarah Jost, Marit Tunestveit Dyre, Randi Annie Strand and Imi Maufe (NO) and Rhona Fleming, David Lemm, Jon Macleod, David Faithfull and Calum Wallis (SCO). The project is curated by David Faithfull (SSA) and Imi Maufe (BAG).
(w)ORD started with two BAG Art Camp/Society of Scottish Artists residencies, first at Tormore on the Isle of Mull, Scotland (2018) and then in Bergen and Tjuvika, Gulen, Norway (2019). Each residency investigated language, landscape and history with invited geologists, scientists, linguists and local inhabitants taking part in seminars and field trips alongside the artists. See more information about the two residencies under: BAG Art Camp 2018 and 2019.
The work resulting from the residencies is presented in a specially designed chest (kist) containing individual drawers for each artist, and a display space for flat work, unfolding to reveal sculptures, drawings, prints, video and artefacts to fill the space in any sized gallery, ferry, barn or other unusual exhibition space it can be exhibited in. An artist book publication accompanies the project designed by David Faithfull and supported by Creative Scotland.
(w)ORD: EBBE+FLOW was launched at Visningsrommet USF, Bergen (20. – 29. August 2021). In Norway it was then shown at Galleri Rustika, Holsnøy (22.– 23. Jan 2022) and at BAG’s Prosjektrommet during B-Open (26.Sept 2022). In Scotland it toured to: An Tobar, Isle of Mull, Scotland (3. Sept – 18. Nov 2022), Society of Scottish Artists 125th Exhibition, Edinburgh (16th Dec – 10th Jan 2023); Taigh Chearsabhagh, North Uist (21st Jan – 29th April 2023); Grinneabhat, Lewis (13. May – 17. June 2023), Dunoon MOCA, Dunoon (19. Aug – 16. Sept 2023), Festival of the Future, Dundee (11. – 14. Oct 2023), Dundee EXPO (1. – 24. Mar 2024), Shetland Museum (8th June – 11. Aug 2024).
The exhibition box along with 4 of the artists (Jon, Calum, David F and Marit) sailed on board the Swan, a sailing boat dating from 1900, from Shetland to Gulatinget, Gulen in august 2024. It was then shown at Skjerjehamn gallery as part of the Gulatinget Festival 2024 (23.– 25. Aug).
